New Rider-Kids

When your child begins riding lessons there are a couple of essentials for safety that we highly recommend. The helmet (they should have their own that's properly fitted for them) and boots are the first and most important items.

Helmets: Should be at minimum ASTM certified. As your child advances, we would recommend a MIPS rated helmet for optimal safety. Proper fit is essential. It shouldn't tip forward, backward or to the side. We can help you with this if needed.

Boots: The boot heel keeps your child's foot from slipping all the way through the stirrup and getting caught. It helps protect the foot from getting stepped on (always an accident on the part of a good lesson horse) and from the elements, including water and cold.

Johdpurs: Especially good for the little riders: Johdpurs, or 'jods' as they are often called, are full length 'riding trousers', made from a comfortable stretchy fabric with reinforced knee patches.

Riding Tights: A lot of kids find riding tights more comfortable than jods, and with our recommended offerings in this collection, they will love them. Riding tights are flexible yoga type exercise wear coming in either knee patch or full seat versions to add a little "stickiness" to the rider's seat and leg.

Half-Chaps: Half Chaps are protect a rider's lower leg from the sitrrup leathers that can sometimes pinch them. Rarely a problem for beginners, as a child advances though, these leg protectors become important and are a great option to the more expensive tall boots that wont adjust as readily to growing feet.

Gloves: Riding gloves help a rider keep a firm grip on the reins, protect the hands from too much UV exposure or an unplanned dismount.

UV/Tech Riding Shirts: Our kid's tech shirts are high quality, breathable and moisture wicking as well as UV rated.
